Good Evening Sense-ibles
Happy Black History Month
It’s Black History Month! A time to celebrate, reflect, and—let’s be honest—ask ourselves, “Why don’t we talk about this all year round?” Seriously though, Black History Month is about recognizing Black people's incredible contributions, struggles, and triumphs throughout history, while also acknowledging the work still to be done. But don’t worry, we’re not just here to get deep—we’re also here to have some fun.
We know the icons—Harriet Tubman, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks—people who probably never hit snooze on their alarms. But it’s not just the historical figures; it’s also about the unsung heroes, the everyday people who fought against injustice, built communities, and influenced the culture we live in today. They’ve paved the way for future generations, and honestly, their hustle puts many of us to shame.
But Black History Month isn’t just about looking backwards—it’s about the here and now, and maybe the awkward conversations at dinner tables where someone says, “I didn’t know that!” Yeah, we’ve all been there. This month gives us a chance to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Whether it’s the history that got lost between the pages of our school textbooks or the stories we never knew existed, it’s a moment to dig deeper, reflect, and spark conversations (and maybe a few friendly debates).
It’s also a time to inspire the next generation. If you’ve got a young one asking, “Could I be the next Malcolm X or Beyoncé?” The answer is yes, but maybe finish your homework first.
So, let’s celebrate Black History Month with pride, humour, and a commitment to creating a future that honours the legacy of those who came before us.
We wanted to make you aware of a range of things happening at Common Sense, so take a look at this newsletter to stay on top of the events and content we have out this week.

Black History Month Pub Quiz
Grab your thinking caps and your favourite drink—it’s time for the Black History Month Pub Quiz! Whether you’re a trivia master or someone who just wants to learn (while pretending you already know), this night is for you. We’ll be testing your knowledge of Black culture, history, and iconic moments, from the unsung heroes to the legends we all know and love.
Expect fierce competition, laughs, and maybe even a few moments where you realize you should have paid more attention in history class. Don’t worry, though—there are no grades here, just bragging rights and some pretty cool prizes for the winning team!
Think you know your Rosa from your Rihanna? Or your MLK from your NBA MVPs? Well, step right up! And don’t worry if you don’t—this quiz will be equal parts fun and educational, so whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a good time, you’ll leave with some new knowledge and maybe a little humility.
What’s on the line? Besides eternal glory, we’ve got some sweet prizes for the top team. Losers? Well, you’ll just have to be content with the fact that you’re helping us celebrate Black History Month… and maybe brush up on your trivia game for next time.
